Mathematics

The study of mathematics is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

By studying mathematics, students learn to work mathematically – developing fluency, understanding, problem-solving, reasoning and communication skills.

At Gundaroo Public School, we use the new NSW syllabus for planning, teaching and assessment.

In support of NSW Department of Education's purpose, a key departmental goal is to ensure all young people have a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy. The five new literacy and numeracy priorities have been developed and describe the critical work of all schools to improve literacy and numeracy.

The five priorities are:

  1. There is a whole school approach to literacy and numeracy achievement from preschool to year 12.
  2. School leadership is focussed on improving student literacy and numeracy.
  3. All teachers use effective practices to improve student literacy and numeracy outcomes through curriculum.
  4. Schools make effective use of data to inform literacy and numeracy improvement.
  5. Families are supported as partners in their children's literacy and numeracy development.

In 2023, we are excited to be working with the NSW Mathematics Strategy Professional Learning (NSWMS PL) team as part of The Building Mathematics Specialisation in Primary Schools Initiative.
