Gundaroo Public School introduces students to the Japanese language and culture through a 45-minute lesson per week.
The learning of languages is shown to increase metalinguistic awareness and enhance overall cognitive development. Students from all year levels attend a Japanese language and cultural class each week. Lessons are conducted in a creative and innovative way encompassing activities from all skill areas: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
Students participate in a variety of activities during each lesson and active student participation is encouraged. Individual students are provided with an exercise book and activity worksheets during lessons. The students are introduced to new linguistic skills based on set topics being covered in class. All lessons involve a variety of language skills and class iPads are also incorporated. Students also participate in cultural activities and interact in the Japanese language through a variety of learning strategies that encourages communication and intercultural understanding.
