This year we have a 3/4 classroom operating with Mrs Dunkerley as the class teacher.
With 7 children in Year 3 and the rest of the children in Year 4, it is a vibrant mix of 21 children.
The morning literacy block kicks of at 9.00am with “the Grej of the Day”. During this time the children find out facts about a famous person, place or thing and write up their information targeting their handwriting. During the rest of the literacy session the children undertake a number of tasks that develop lifelong habits of reading, writing and working independently. The morning is broken with a 15 minute daily mile as the children head out for some fresh air and exercise on the school oval.
Students engage in differentiated learning programs, including open-ended learning tasks combined with explicit teaching across all subjects. Maths is usually taught in the middle session and higher order questions as well as targeted skill lessons makes the maths environment hands on and busy.
The final session is when we spend time working on Science, History, Geography, Personal Health and Development and Creative Arts. With the schools’ new multi-purpose room up and operating the class is often over in this area cooking or painting and enjoying a variety of experiences.
